Literatur: Ode
ODE. n. s. [ὠδὴ] A poem written to be sung to musick; a lyrick poem; the ode is either of the greater or less kind. The less is characterised by sweetness and ease; the greater by sublimity, rapture, and quickness of transition.
A man haunts the forest that abuses our young plants with carving Rosalind on their barks; hangs odes upon hawthorns, and elegies on brambles, all forsooth deifying the name of Rosalind. Shakesp. As you like it.
O run, prevent them with thy humble ode,
And lay it lowly at his blessed feet. Milt. Poems.
What work among you scholar Gods!
Phœbus must write him am'rous odes;
And thou, poor cousin, must compose
His letters in submissive prose. Prior. Dict.
